Eligibility

Equivalence Tests

There are tests available so that you can demonstrate that you have the equivalent skills and knowledge of GCSE qualifications. STORM recognises the equivalency tests of Higher Education Institutions that provide STORM with certification of their equivalency tests. For this academic year these include Edgehill University and Liverpool John Moores University.

Schools

You must be employed by a school and have regular teaching responsibility for full classes in order to be accepted for the programme. Schools are likely to support the application only when they are confident about the teacher’s skills, potential and familiarity with the National Curriculum.  Sometimes the overseas trained teacher will raise their awareness of the National Curriculum by working as teaching assistants or learning mentors in schools.

Where an overseas trained teacher has significant experience of UK schools, the OTT programme may be a straightforward process.  This could mean verifying existing evidence of teaching skills against the Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) standards.  Overseas trained teachers will less experience may require a longer programme with a more substantial training element.

Please note that STORM is not in a position to secure employment in schools for overseas trained teachers.
